Gerardo Martínez, General Secretary of the Construction Workers Union of the Republic of Argentina and President of Build Cinema, inaugurating the sixth edition of the Festival.
Construir Cine is a one-of-a-kind Festival in the region, and its primary purpose is the finding and promotion of films that address universal issues that affect workers around the world, and also consider work as a force of change in people's lives.
Well aware of the power of stories to inspire people and allow them to see the world from another perspective, Construir Cine takes on the challenge of linking art to social impact, and also to be an environment aimed at disseminating and rewarding audiovisual works that seek to influence the social and labor reality of Argentina and the world.
The current trends of technological, political, and climate changes together with the process of globalization change the rules and affect all workers around the world. Construir Cine is committed to creating transformative experiences, to generating open calls aimed at discovering ingenious and original audiovisual works, and to delivering each year a carefully selected film programming, away from the mainstream distribution channels, that enlighten and motivate the debate on the world of work.
As to content, the works to be submitted must tell stories related to the world of work and workers. Under this thematic area, the festival is looking for stories of courage, progress, fellowship, simple or grandiloquent stories that strike a chord with viewers, or educate and report on situations that should be open to social discussion. Within the wide scope of the topic, by way of example, please find below the four main themes on which Construir TV and Construir Cine are based on.
